Quantitative research. Proprietary capital.

A scientific approach
to trading

Explore the firm

We develop and trade systematic strategies with our own capital. Our work connects quantitative research, execution and risk management.

An independent quantitative
trading firm

Quantomatic is a proprietary trading firm built around quantitative research. We study market behaviour, develop models and turn the results into systematic trading strategies.

Trading our own capital gives us the freedom to develop ideas and the responsibility to test them rigorously. Research and engineering work together, from the first hypothesis to live execution.

Systematic
strategies

We look for repeatable relationships in prices, liquidity and risk. Each strategy is evaluated on its own merits and on what it brings to the portfolio.

Different sources of return.
A common standard of evidence.

01

Statistical arbitrage

We model relationships between instruments and look for deviations that may revert. Positions in pairs and baskets are constructed to capture relative price movements while managing exposure to broader market factors.

What mattersModel stability, changing correlations, crowding and the cost of trading all legs of a position.

02

Market making

Providing liquidity is a continuous pricing problem. Our models combine order book data, short-term price forecasts and current inventory to determine quote prices and sizes, and when to reduce exposure.

What mattersAdverse selection, inventory exposure, queue position and execution quality.

03

Trend & momentum

Markets can adjust gradually as information and capital move through them. We study persistent price behaviour across instruments and horizons, with systematic entry, sizing and exit rules that adapt exposure as conditions change.

What mattersFalse starts, sharp reversals, turnover and concentration in shared market drivers.

04

Relative value & carry

We examine relative pricing across linked instruments, including cash and derivatives and different maturities. Carry strategies assess the income and costs of holding a position, including yield, funding and roll effects. Both require careful assessment of trading costs and exposure to adverse price moves.

What mattersFunding conditions, basis risk, liquidity and the risk that expected convergence does not occur.

05

Volatility strategies

Option prices reflect both expectations of future price movements and compensation for bearing risk. We analyse implied and realised volatility, skew and term structure to identify relative pricing opportunities and construct hedged positions.

What mattersNonlinear exposures, price gaps, tail risk and the cost and limitations of hedging.

From research
to execution

Research does not end with a backtest. Data, models and trading systems have to work together under live market conditions.

We assess statistical models and machine learning methods by their performance on unseen data, stability and trading costs. Additional complexity must justify its use.

  1. 01

    Data with context

Understand the source, the market conventions and what was knowable at the time. Reliable timestamps and clean data are the foundation of reliable research.

  2. 02

    Models under scrutiny

Evaluate models on data held out from development and across market conditions. Compare with simple baselines and examine the market behaviour that could explain a result.

  3. 03

    Execution in the model

Model transaction costs and execution constraints, including fees, bid–ask spreads, market impact and fill uncertainty. Evaluate signals on the results achievable after those costs.

  4. 04

    Feedback from the market

Compare live behaviour with expectations. Revisit assumptions as liquidity, trading costs and the signals themselves change.

Risk is part of
the trading process

Risk informs strategy design, position sizing and execution. We assess individual exposures and how they interact across the portfolio.

Trading controls

Position size, exposure and liquidity inform the decision before an order is sent. Execution controls provide a way to reduce or halt activity when conditions require it.

Portfolio perspective

Different strategies can carry the same underlying risk. We examine common factors, concentration and how correlations may change under stress.

Ongoing review

Changes in data quality, trading costs or market behaviour require investigation. Models and exposures remain subject to review throughout their life.

Small team,
deep expertise

Quantomatic is a small team of experienced quantitative researchers and engineers. Our expertise spans statistical modelling, market microstructure and the systems that turn research into trading.

We work closely across disciplines and take responsibility for the details. Ideas are discussed openly, assumptions are challenged, and the people developing a model stay involved as it moves into the market.
